Sunday Sermon: Maher-velous

If you’re reading this the day it posts, I’m out of town — visiting an old friend from college (On Wisconsin!) who’s now in Newark, and we’re probably watching the Packer game in a Packer bar in Greenwich Village(!) that used to be a beatnik hangout(!!). So I’ll turn the mic over to brother Bill Maher, who absolutely pwns Bill O’Reilly in his own “No Spin Zone.”

I’m surprised you’re impressed by this – I thought Maher did a horrible job of ‘being heard’. No O’Reilly viewer is going to listen to someone who off the bat calls them ‘stupid’. O’Reilly set him up for failure, and Maher was more than willing to walk right into the trap.

Yeah, this interview wasn’t going to go well for Maher. I mean, who can get any REASON from O’Reilly no matter what is said.
Maher ended up looking rude and ineffectual. Of course, O’Reilly ended up looking like an asshole, so…status quo.

There was no way that Maher was going to win that one and he was foolish to have gotten himself in the position of having to defend his original comment. I do, however, respect him for having the guts to show up for battle, even if it was on O’Reilly’s turf where he would find his attempts at rational discussion shouted down by the loud-mouth.

It was worth a chuckle, though…I do so love the part at 2:50 where O’Reilly claims “…what i believe in is love your neighbor as yourself and don’t call him stupid because they don’t agree with you politically…”

I wish Maher had called him on it —
“Um…er….but Bill…how can that be so when your whole show is about denigrating others who don’t agree with you politically?”
